Talk by Frederik Rademakers on reconstructing ancient metallurgy

The title of today's talk was:

'Reconstructing ancient metallurgy: interdisciplinray approaches to archaeological (?) questions'

Frederik gave a brief introduction to the field of archaeometallurgy, taking us on a journey through the 'metal' ages (Bronze Age, Iron Age, even Gold Age for the Americas). He presented examples demonstrating the evolution of metallurgical technology and how this affected the type of objects that could be produced in each cultural context. Finally, he showed us how experimental archaeology coupled with physicochemical analysis can help an archaeologist understand how a metal artifact came to be (why was a specific alloy chosen, how it would have been produced, what was the organisation of production).
