Talk by Tim Evans on network analysis for archaeological applications

  • Talk by Tim Evans (Imperial College London):

'Networks and space: The effects of space on network analysis' (c
    omplex networks in archaeology)

  • Abstract: I will start by considering the key ingredients of a spatial network model. Firstly what are the questions such models attempt to answer. Secondly I will talk about the different ways we can encode distances. Thirdly I will consider what the nodes of the network represent. Finally we need to see how we can use the edges of the network to represent interactions.

To illustrate how such network models can be used, I will draw on my work with Knappett and Rivers which looked at the Aegean in the Middle Bronze Age.

I will end by highlighting some of the outstanding issues in this area.
